Govt seeks more time to remove DG FIA

ISLAMABAD: The government on Thursday sought more time from the Supreme Court (SC) to comply with its order concerning removal of the Director General (DG) Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) Waseem Ahmed from office.
During the hearing of the Hajj scam case, Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry asked the secretary establishment why the Ahmed had not been removed yet.
The secretary informed the court that the government could not remove the FIA chief due to issues regarding national security.
Earlier as well, the government, through the Establishment Division, had argued that Ahmed was monitoring issues of national significance and therefore could not be immediately removed from his post, after the apex court had instructed the government to remove him.
